Resident of Alameda
Betty Ruth Bosworth passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021. She was born in Alameda on Wednesday, October 26th, 1932, to Axel and Esther Peterson. Betty was a first-generation American and native Alamedan who lived on the island her whole life.
In her younger years, Betty attended Alameda High School and worked at Miss Saylor’s Chocolate Company. In 1949, she married Bernard Bosworth in Reno, Nevada. They had four children together, Frank Bosworth, Larry Bosworth, Kathie Bosworth, and Patrick Bosworth. Betty and Bernard were together for 39 years until he passed away in 1988.
Betty was an avid storyteller who could talk for hours whether it was about her days at Neptune Beach or trips to her family’s cabin in Russian River. She enjoyed nothing more than sitting from her front steps and watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play at Washington Park. She was known for always having her door open to the community, and most days you could find her gardening in the backyard.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband and three sons. Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathie Bosworth, daughter-in-law, Nanette Bosworth-Stein, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kelly Wentz, Morgan Wentz, Jack Wentz, Stacy Hickey, Hailey Hickey, James Hickey, Larry Bosworth, Lacie Bosworth, and Wyatt Bosworth.
Everyone who met Betty could feel her warmth, immediately saw her heart, and treated her with care. She left a lasting impression on many from lifelong friends to nurses. Her family and friends are deeply saddened by her loss, but they know Betty’s spirit will always be with them.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
