He was born in Galesburg, Illinois, and moved to Placerville, California, to work in the logging industry. At 18, he joined the United States Marine Corps.
Chuck, aka Bud, or grandpa Buddy, was the kind of man that you would want in your corner. Family meant the world to him. His favorite sayings included: Blood is thicker then water, You take care of the ones in need and last but certainly not least, nobody falls through cracks. He was kind-hearted and fair, had a flexible ear and the confidence to say you were wrong.
Son, husband, father and grandfather. His legacy will be difficult to match. His loving wife Kathleen Sutherland of 47 years, his 5 children Tony, Joe Mike and Mark Sutherland as well as his daughter Julie Waasted are all survivors. They will miss his beautiful life.
