Irene Marie Van Dorn

Irene Marie Van Dorn entered eternal life on November 17, 2021, at the age of 95.

Irene was born in San Jose, Ca. on August 31, 1926, the only child of George and Cecelia Pereira.  She was raised in a close knit Portuguese immigrant community with a large extended family.  Irene attended St. Patrick’s School and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School.  In 1947 she married her childhood sweetheart John (Jack) Van Dorn.

Jack and Irene welcomed 6 children, Suzanne (Les) Baker, Carol (Rich) Polan, Rob (Cindi) Van Dorn, Bill (Margie) Van Dorn and Maryann (Tye) Lovern.  Irene was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Molly Baker, Beau Baker (Paulina), Trevor Polan (Danae), Taylor Polan (Antonia), Mandi Moodie (John), Allie Cloney (Ryan), Alex Van Dorn, Lili Van Dorn, Ali Akers (Cody), Dillon Lovern, and 11 beautiful great grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her daughter Patty in 1964 and husband Jack in 2000.

Jack and Irene moved their young family from San Jose to Doyle in 1964 where Jack managed his family’s ranch, Constantia.  They moved on from Doyle to their own ranch in Standish in 1968 and finally to Susanville in 1977.

Irene was a devout Catholic her entire life.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish for 57 years.  Irene worked for Dr. Meadows in the front office for 37 years where she made many friends over the years.

Irene enjoyed sewing, knitting, spending time in her garden, her many and various pets, but especially her “little dogs”.  She was happiest reclining in her chair with a glass of wine.  She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.   Irene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on December 11, 2021.  Rosary at 10:00, followed by  Mass at 10:30.  A private burial will follow at the Vinton Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Lassen County Humane Society.
