MOORPARK — Long Beach Jordan sophomore sprinter Jordan Washington qualified for the CIF State Track and Field Meet in the 100 and 200 meters and the boys 4×100 relay with his showing at the CIF-SS Masters Meet Saturday at Moorpark High School.

Washington is relishing the chance to become an all-state runner.

“I’m excited to go to state and compete with the best of the best, I’m extremely blessed,” Washington said.

The state meet will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 27-28, in Clovis.

Washington began the Masters Meet by running the second leg of Jordan’s boys 4×100 relay, which posted a time of 41.88 seconds to qualify for the state meet.

Washington also ran 10.38 seconds in the 100 and finished second to Serra junior Rodrick Pleasant, who set a new California record in the event with a wind-legal time of 10.14.

“It’s a crazy experience running against somebody like (Pleasant),” Washington said. “He’s a great athlete… He blew my mind how he passed but I’m always going to come back and it gives me something to strive for.”

Washington finished third in the 200 with a time of 21.33, behind Pleasant’s 20.49 and Long Beach Poly senior Jaelen Knox’s 21.13.

Jordan junior hurdler Darryl Stevens finished fourth Saturday in the boys 300 hurdles with a qualifying time of 38.29.

Among those who did not qualify for the state meet were Jordan’s boys 4×400 relay, which finished eighth with a time of 3:23.39, and Jordan sophomore Jerman Simms Jr. who finished 14th in the boys high jump with a mark of 6 feet.
