Kenneth Raymond Nelson died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in Davis. He was 90.
Born Aug. 19, 1921, in Oak Park, Ill., to Raymond Nelson and Grace Shultz Nelson, he was married to Betty M. Nelson for more than 59 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Jason and earned his business management degree at the University of Southern California. He owned a successful accounting practice for many years in Southern California. He later became the first non-legal officer in large law firms in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, and started the Association of Legal Administrators in California, working until he retired more than 11 years ago.
He was a member of Yolo Masonic Lodge No. 195 and will be buried with full honors from the Masons and the Navy. Ken and Betty were among the original couples at Davis’ University Retirement Community in 2000. They started the MED-Van fund, URC Foundation and the Bizarre Bazaar.
Ken Nelson is survived by three loving children, Stephanie Harkness and her Husband Jack, Mark Nelson and his wife Abigail, and Cheryl Bartlett; grandchildren Carrie, David, Allan, Amy, Jaime, Adam, Katie, Ryan, and Andra; and great grandchildren, Zachary, Jaiden, Mia, Beckett, Taylor, Hayden, Addison, Caitlin and Colton. His wife Betty and his brother Howard predeceased him.
Services begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 640 Hawthorne Lane in Davis.
