Mary Colleen Myers, age 89, of Appleton, Wisconsin passed away in her home on Friday, May 19, 2023. She was born on July 20, 1933, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Thomas B. Myers Sr. And Mary Nell Robinson Myers. Colleen was a graduate of Milikin University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters in Guidance. She moved to Appleton in 1961 and accepted a position as Program Service Director and Chalk Hills Camp Director for the Fox River Area Girl Scout Council. She became Executive Director of the Council in the late 1960s and retired from that position in 1990. She was active in her community through the Business and Professional Women’s organization, the Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary, and LEAVEN. She was a member and past president of the Sons of Norway Norse Valley Lodge 491. She also served on the Appleton Housing Authority Board and was active in Rotary.
Her love of the Girl Scouts and outdoors led to lifelong friendships in the United States and Norway. She was an avid woodworker, antique collector, genealogist, and prankster.
Mary Colleen Myers is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Thomas Bushnell Myers and Edward Nelson Myers, and sister-in-law Mary Myers. She is survived by a sister-in-law Lois Myers; three nieces, Cynthia King, Sharon (Paul) McAnear, and Connie (John) Taylor; two nephews, Thomas (Cindy) Myers and Rodger (Janet) Myers; and several great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her special friend Ann T. Bishop and hundreds of Girl Scouts who shared her love of scouting and adventure.
The celebration of life ceremony will be held June 10 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Community Room of the Appleton Ridgeview Highlands Apartments. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, LEAVEN, The Ridges Sanctuary, or the Sons of Norway Norse Valley Lodge 491.
