A group of eight to 10 suspects stormed a Home Depot in the 5000 block of Hardwick Street in Lakewood just before 8 p.m. Friday evening, officials said.

The group cleared out the entire hammer section and also took crowbars, wrenches, and sledgehammers.

“We are concerned these could be used in future incidents,” said Deputy Miguel Meza, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The exact number of items stolen was not immediately known, but was “substantial”, totaling about $950 based on early estimates, Meza said.

The suspects had vehicles waiting for them outside the store. Deputies have one vehicle of interest and do not believe the men were armed, said Meza late Friday evening.

Deputies were on scene to review footage and the incident is under investigation.
